Glossary term for STR Analysis

STR Analysis

Analysis of DNA can be done in a number of ways. STR analysis is one such means. STR stands for Short Tandem Analysis and involves examining repeated sequences of DNA.  Analysts will look for identical motifs on the DNA profile under analysis and our DNA will have many of these repeats. On some STR loci, the number of repeats may vary from one person to the other and the reason for this is not clearly understood. However, variations in repeat are what analysts often look if they are seeking to establish genetic differences between individuals.  STR analysis is usually performed on nuclear DNA which is the DNA found in a cell component known as the nucleus.
